CBA June 2019 Porsche Market Update
Inventory Drop Mostly Due to 991.1 GT3RS
|
|
As we move into summer the volume of cars being taken off the market appears to be increasing – an overall drop of 5% in market inventory. The 180+ days inventory fell by 14% indicating that sellers are figuring out that at some point you have to take the car off the market or capitulate on price and move it. Most likely we are witnessing the former combined with a drop in new cars coming to market (off by 5%) as summer comes in to full swing.
The best example of the what the market is doing can be seen in the 991.1 GT3RS. The 180+ days on market inventory fell by 30% as cars listed this long were figured to be stale – or bargains. And even though the total market inventory of the model fell by 27 units a whopping 142 units remain on offer. An average price drop of $4,500 isn’t nearly enough to entice the volumes of buyers needed to reduce the inventory to a healthy 3% or less of production (currently at 9%) .
Summer buying enthusiasm may be over. Vacation time is here and there other things to focus on. Concurrently, with so many examples of many models available, there is little urgency for buyers who are willing to wait for prices to drop to bargain levels. The impact of newer models on demand for the models in this report is most likely measurable as well (we will start to understand this impact once we begin processing data on additional 991 models later this summer).
We collect daily market data on PORS9 Registry models (by VIN) which we summarize and share in a monthly blog post which we believe is useful as a barometer for the market and its direction over time. Current month data consists of publicly offered examples tracked individually for their time on the market and price as of June 30 2019. Price data is asking.
